Attendance Procedures
When Your Student Is Not Going to School – Each and every day your student is absent from school, you should call the 24 hr. attendance recorder at 778–4907. Any absences that have not been cleared by a parent within three days of the student’s return will automatically become unexcused “cuts”. After 4 days of absence you may request homework to be gathered for your student. Please make this request before 9:00 am and the work will be made available for pick up the following school day. Work not picked–up within two days will be returned to the teacher. For an extended absence from school (more than 5 days), you may request that your student receive Independent Study. This must be requested by the parent, at least 5 school days in advance. Contact our Librarian, for more information at 778 – 4719.
ABSENCES Current State law does not recognize any absence other than illness, death of an immediate family member or a medical appointment as excused. Parents are urged to plan family vacations during school vacations. Much important learning happens during collaboration in class with other students.
After 14 accumulated days of absences due to illness with out medical clearance, your student can be declared a truant and parents will be called to attend a meeting with the administration of the school. When a doctor sees your student for any illness that causes them to miss school, parents should send a doctor’s note stating this fact. This helps your student avoid being declared a truant.
When Your Student Needs to Leave School Early – YOU MUST send a note to school with your student, who will then take it to the Student Assistance Center located at the back of the main office, in the morning to receive their ‘Permit to Leave Campus’. This process is important to the attendance procedure. It allows us to know, in advance, who is leaving campus and when, and avoids disruption of the classroom learning environment. If your student returns the same day, they simply bring the ‘Permit to Leave Campus’ back to the S.A.C. and they are checked in. Of course there are occasions when you cannot follow this procedure. Please let the school know, as soon as possible, that you need to pick-up your student, that way we can begin the process and have the your student ready to leave quickly. If you have any questions please come by or call the school office at 778-4710 and ask for Ms. Mattei in attendance. 24 hr. ATTENDANCE RECORDER 778-4907 TARDIES Arrival to school ANYTIME after 8:15 is considered LATE! Students must check into school through the S.A.C. and receive a tardy pass. Students may not enter school after 8:15 without a pass. The only excused tardies are those attributed to illness or a medical appointment. Send your student with a note if this is the case. Arriving late establishes poor work habits and is disruptive to the educational process for other students. Students who are excessively tardy will be given detentions or other consequences.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION MEDICAL EXCUSE Students bring parent or physician’s note to the S.A.C. before 8:15 a.m. Students will be issued a medical form to be presented to the physical education teacher. “A parent’s note does not automatically excuse a student from dressing for class.” A student on parent medical will participate in a modified or limited program instead of the regular class activity. Students on modified or limited program are responsible for all class assignments. Notes must contain: • Current date • First and last name of student • Name of physical education teacher • Specific reason for medical excuse • More than three days excuse must be accompanied by a note from a physician (Calif. Ed. Code) • Signature of parent or guardian
PLEASE NOTE: The modified or limited program also applies to physician’s notes. If students have a sprain or a break they may still dress and take part in what they are physically capable of handling. Students should ask for a copy of the modified program from your physical education teacher.
